Thoughtful Estate Planning for Married Couples
The “great wealth transfer” refers to the transition of more than $100 trillion predicted to happen via inheritance and bequests over the next 20 or so years. An enormous percentage of that wealth transfer is likely to pass to a surviving spouse before passing to younger generations. Intentional and thoughtful estate planning for married couples is, therefore, exceptionally important. This course explores concepts underpinning estate planning for married couples, such as the unlimited marital deduction and portability, and examines several planning techniques, including qualified terminable interest trusts (QTIPs) and spousal lifetime access trusts (SLATs).
