This course provides financial advisors with a roadmap for guiding business owners through the complex process of succession planning. Advisors will learn when and how to initiate succession conversations, develop a structured framework to analyze succession options, and navigate the unique challenges faced by family-owned businesses. Through a mix of practical strategies and real-world examples, advisors will gain actionable insights to help clients protect their legacy and ensure a smooth transition of business ownership.

  • Best practices for approaching succession planning with prospective and existing clients
  • Implications of the recent Supreme Court Connelly decision on business succession
  •  Critical questions advisors should ask to uncover client goals and potential obstacles
  •  Funding strategies, including insurance, promissory notes, and loans, to support successful transitions

By the end of this course, advisors will be better equipped to provide tailored guidance, anticipate challenges, and create succession plans that align with their clients’ long-term business and family objectives.

This course is eligible for 1.0 credit.

To receive certified financial planner (CFP) or continuing education  (CE) credit, you must complete a short multiple-choice quiz. You can expect 15-30 minutes to complete the quiz and must earn a passing score of at least 70 percent.

  • You will need to provide the attendance verification code given during the on-demand course and your CFP identification number, if applicable, so have them both ready before starting the quiz.
  • Upon passing, you will receive an email with your attached certificate. Keep this email for your records.
  • After you have passed the quiz, WealthCounsel will report your credits to the CFP Board within 14 days, if applicable.
  • This on-demand program is not eligible for certified professional education (CPE) credit.
